Promotion activities of local Traditional Culture
- He was the technical Implementation Consultant of the project entitled ”Construction establishing substructure culture at the civic apartment of Neos Skopos – Construction folkloric museum at the civic apartment of Neos Skopos” in 2008, within the framework of the INTERREG III A – PHARE CBC Greece-Bulgaria 2000-2006 Programme, measure 3.3 in cooperation with the Municipality of Strymona.
- He was the technical Implementation Consultant of the project entitled ” Enhancement and promotion of cultural and tourist resources -Promote cultural and folklore heritage of the Vlahs in the great region of Municipality of Serres and South Bulgaria- Construction of Folklore Museum ” in 2006 in the context of Interreg IIIA / PHARE CBC Greece-Bulgaria Programme, measure 3.3
Activities for the enhancement of the Traditional Settlement of Chionochori
He was the initiator of the idea of the restoration, renovation and conservation of the traditional settlement of Chionochori in the Prefecture of Serres (known as “stone” village), which was abandoned in 1969 due to urbanization and the decline of the livestock. He, also, financed the initial study carried out. In 2012 the project of the implementation of the enhancement of the Traditional Settlement of Chionochori was funded by the Greece-The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia IPA Cross-Border Interreg Programme 2007-2013, in the framework of the project entitled ‘Promotion of the Vlachs’ cultural heritage in the regions of Serres and Konce”, in cooperation with local stakeholders.
The location of the settlement as well as the peculiarity of its traditional, stone-built houses, the way they were maintained, render this place of exceptional tourist interest.
The traditional, tall, stone-built houses, built in the early 19th century, look as if they are hanging from the steep slopes of Mt Menikio, reminding more work of a classic medieval painter.
The settlement will soon be home to the most demanding visitor, providing high quality services, but mainly, vividly highlighting the story of a numerous Latin-speaking population, rich in folklore and tradition, such as the Vlachs.
