The town of Leposavic, situated in the region of Kosovo, recently hosted a grand gala on the occasion of the two most important events organized by the World Folklore Union I.G.F.
The ”Gold Star” (ex. Oscar) is dedicated to outstanding personalities of the cultural-artistic world while ”I.G.F. Folk Star” is an event that awards dance ensembles from all over the world.
During this year’s edition of – I.G.F. ”Gold Star” – the acting President of the World Folklore Union – Prof.Dr. Dorel Cosma, awarded prizes to five outstanding personalities of the cultural-artistic life: Verros N. Konstantinos from Greece, Michalis Terlikkas from Cyprus, Lakusic Djordje from Serbia, Marwan Tatour from Israel and Xosé Lois Foxo Rivas from Spain.
The event took place in the ”Kud Kopaonik” theatre hall. Several official guests including the Executive Board of the I.G.F. and national and local office holders from Kosovo, the Mayor of the town of Leposavic – Kosovo, the delegate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Belgrade – Serbia and the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Culture honoured the festivities.
Representative ensembles from Bulgaria, Israel, Romania, Serbia, Spain and Vietnam took part in the ”I.G.F. Folk Star” awards. The ensembles received awards for their preservation and promotion of the folk traditions.
The next event of the agenda of the World Folklore Union I.G.F. will take place between 1 – 3 September in Interlaken – where the Executive Bord will meet in order to set the agenda for the next manifestations of I.G.F.
