INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION’S REGULATION
Art. 1 – ORGANIZATION
Vittorio De Seta competition/review is conceived by the Italian Federation of Popular Traditions (since now named FITP) and organized by a team of experts specially chosen by the FITP.
Art. 2 – PURPOSES
The competition wants to give value to the image of the film director and film-maker Vittorio De Seta, who has always been showing a particular ethno-anthropological interest. Moreover, its aim is to promote and spread the anthropological knowledge through the use of the audiovisual mean and method; protect and give value to popular cultures intended as inalienable heritage of the local identities. Within the frame of the debate related to the demo-ethno-anthropological disciplines, the competition/review ‘s function is to contribute at better definining the important role of the visual anthropology.
Art. 3 – DEADLINE AND PLACES
FITP advertises yearly a competition/review for the production of documentaries of ethnographic nature. The same will establish date and place of the carrying out of the event, defined “Vittorio De Seta” International Review of Ethnographic Documentaries”, in which the first 10 admitted documentaries will be screened. Simultaneously to the annual approval of the competition Call, FITP will establish the deadline for the presentation of the documentaries submitted to preselection.
Art. 4 – THEME AND DURATION
Annually, the Scientific Consult of FITP will establish the theme and the duration of the documentaries. The thme could be free or defined; at any case they will be invited to participate productions of documentaries related to ethnographic and socio-cultural aspects of whatever place.
Art. 5 – SECTIONS AND CATEGORIES
National and international movies can enter.
– As for National it is intended: documentaries produced in Italy, in Italian or dialects subtitled in Italian.
– As for International it is intended:
a) documentaries produced abroad in a language different from Italian; in such a case subtitles in Italian are requested
b) documentaries produced in Italy in the same language or local spoken panguage different from Italian; even in this case subtitles in Italian are requested.
Art. 6 – CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
1 The participation to the competition is free and open to all, with no limits of age and nationality.
2 Each author or groups of authors can send more documentaries, but only one can be prizewinning.
3 All the audiovisual published and unpublished works, made in any part of the world, produced since 2005 can participate to the competition.
4 The documentaries should have a theme and duration fixed year by year.
5 Documentaries for which there is no full ownership of useful rights (images and soundtrack) to the participation to the competition and the public screening, are not allowed to participate.
6 Advertising spots, exclusively musical documentaries and editorial video-films, expressely promotional or otherwise trade, or which violate the rights and the dignity of man, are not admitted.
7 The author takes full charge of all responsibilities coming out from an eventual improper use of the audiovisual against manufacturing companies and/or eventual parts which could be damaged or feel themselves offended because of the contents of the same work.
8 For the purposes of a correct participation, each year the application form and the competition call will be drawn up and downloadable from the site www.fitp.org. In the competition call there will be the deadline foreseen to send the documentaries subdue to preselection.
Art. 7 – STEPS
The competition is designed in three steps :
1st step PRESELECTION
2nd step ADMISSION
3rd step PUBLIC PERFORMANCE
Art. 8 – PRESELECTION
To enter the PRESELECTION, in the competition call there will be indicated the deadline to send the documentaries.
The documentaries and the application form in e-format should be sent to the mail address premiodeseta@gmail.comor uploaded on a specific section of thewww.fitp.org site.
Art. 9 – ADMISSION
The works received within the given date will be viewed by a commission which unchallengeably will deliberate the admission to the 3rd step (PUBLIC PERFORMANCE).
The authors and film directors responsible for the works will receive communication of the occurred ADMISSION.
Art. 10 – ACCESS TO THE PUBLIC PERFORMANCE
Authors or film directors responsible of the selected and ADMITTED works, to enter the 3rd step, should send in 15 days, to the address given in the competition call, an envelope containing the following materials:
- Application form, signed and filled in in all its parts.
- Copy of the audiovisual (dvd, blu-ray, file), recorded through EUROPE REGION 2 system.
- CD or DVD containing:
a brief synopsis of the film in Italian or in English; biography and filmography of the author or the authors in Italian or in English; technical data sheet of the film, with eventual cast & credits, in Italian or in English and a list of the musical tracks (author and title) used as soundtrack.
- Trailer or film abstracts in any format for the promotion of the competition (optional).
5. Pictures of the film and the author for the promotion of the competition (optional).
As for international expeditions from Countries not falling within the European Community through post service or courier service, the envelope should be accompanied by a proform invoice having the following wording: “only for cultural use with no trade value” .
FITP establishes any customs fees won’t be charged on it.
By FITP nothing is due, neither as a personal title nor as freight or support, nor as advantage for the producer or distributor company.
All the material sent to participate to the 3rd step won’t be returned and will be kept in the Archives of the FITPfor the sole cultural, spreading and didactic purposes.
The participation to the competition/review which will be advertised involves the whole acceptance of such a regulation .
Art. 11 – PUBLIC PERFORMANCE
The ADMITTED documentaries will be presented to the public in a performance taking place by the 31st December of each year; in such event 10 documentaries will be screened and the first three, chosen by the JURY, will be rewarded.
Art. 12 – JURY
The Jury will be made up of five members:
an expert in visual anthropology;
an expert of cinema and film direction or a documentary film- maker;
the president of the Scientific Consult and two members appointed by FITP.
The president of FITP’s Scientific Consult will be president and coordinator of the Jury .
Each juryman, for each single work, will have to formulate a written own opinion with the relative assessment, so to get to final collective judgement, in which the single evaluations and the votes of the jurymen should be expressed clearly.
The jury may decide to assign at maximum 2 (two) ex-aequo prizes; in such case the prize will be divided equally between the winners.
Art. 13 – PRIZES
FITP, in its annual forecast budget, will establish the amount of the prizes. Among the admitted documentaries the first three will be rewarded. The prize will be given to the signatory (film director or producer) of the competition’s application form.
Value of the prizes:
- First classified € 2000,00
- Second classified € 1000,00
- Third classified € 500,00
Art. 14 – RESPONSIBILITY AND GENERAL NORMS
Such a regulation establishes that, through the subscription of the application form, the author or film
director responsible for the documentary, states as follows:
- the work presented does not violate laws or current regulations, or rights of third parties;
- to be the owner of (or having rights on) the work and the musical tracks;
- to raise FITP from from losses, damages, responsibilities, costs and charges of whatever type caused because of the content of the documentary and its screening in public;
to give irrevocably up each claim or action, request or redraft against the organizators of the Competition, the members of the Jury and all people involved at any title in the same exhibition and competition, raising them from every responsibility thereupon.
Art. 15 – COMPROMISE AND FINAL CLAUSE
It is at last specified that any dispute should rise as for the relationships object of the present competition notice, it will be sent in judgement to an arbitration Board made up of three members, of whom:
- one, with functions of president, appointed by common agreement by FITP’s President;
- one appointed by the contender;
- one appointed by common agreement by the subjects of whom at the two previous points a) and b) or, in case of failing agreement, by the President of the Court of the place where the public event will take place.
For each exception not envisaged in the present regulation, the FITP reserves the right to take final decisions.
Art. 16 – CONSENT AND PRIVACY
Who subscribes the application form, according to the Legislative Decree n. 196/2003 about the privacy protection, declares explicitly to allow the use of the personal data for all the initiatives connected to the competition.
